They tried to sell a kouros for 200,000 euros

Two Greek nationals were arrested Friday for the illegal possession of a kouros statue dated to the 6th century BC. The two suspects, aged 36 and 63, were nabbed during a police check of their car in the area of the Corinth Canal in the Peloponnese.

Police said they received information last month ago about a suspect who was trying to sell a kouros for 200,000 euros. Both men were to appear before a prosecutor. A kouros is a freestanding ancient Greek sculpture representing a nude male youth.
Such statues first appeared in the Archaic period that stretched from the 8th to the 6th century BC.
